Bass Fishing Basics

If an angler wanted to go fish for a largemouth bass that is all he would ever need. Sure that is rather Spartan and the burning question is where the bait is? There is live bait everywhere that a bass will strike when impaled on a hook. The chances are better that a bass will strike a struggling grasshopper on the surface or slowly kicking to the bottom than hit a flashy lure. The odds that the bass will liken the grass hopper are at least ten to one, at least. Live bait beats any other bait and this is because real versus fake is the fastest way to a largemouth’s, mouth.

A great live bait will be choice in the hunt for a decent sized bass. The bass that are in the body of water where you are fishing, feed exclusively on the fish and insect life that are present there. Occasionally the largemouth bass will eat small invertebrates and even very small birds if they get them into their gaping mouths. A bass will not turn its big mouth away from anything basically that it can fit into that famous mouth. The next time you have the fantastic opportunity city to catch and land a largemouth bass take the time to examine the catch. Notice that the body in proportion to its head and mouth is relatively small. The mouth is the highlight of the entire fish making up to 50 % of the total body mass of the largemouth bass. Upon inspection, the mouth is huge with separated small teeth that can grip the fish and other prey that the bass had the chance to put in its gaping mouth. The bass has no external organs that are visible but only a huge mouth that leads directly to its gullet. A simple evolutionary triumph that has this fish tops in anyones big mouth list.

The bass can be caught in every southern state in the United States. The warmer the weather the better the production of bass. Even the far western states have been stocked with bass fingerings and now that crop of gamefish is growing and multiplying exponentially. Arizona recently released their third batch of Georgian bass and anglers are already reporting huge catches of the largemouth species. The future of the largemouth bass looks promising and this is due to the tireless efforts of the Game and Fish Departments of the respective states. The popularity of the largemouth bass is unmatched in the United states and the fish even has its own following in every state. If you want to try your hand at bass fishing then the best bet would be to research the area in which you intend on going to and then see about hiring a guide to take the guessing game out of bass fishing in that particular locale.
